Ginger Oil is best known as a digestive aid but it is also known for treating acid reflux, arthritis, poor circulation, cold & flu, heart conditions, inflammation, IBS, morning sickness, nausea & vomiting, rheumatism, dysentery, malaria, fatty liver, etc.
It is used commercially in cosmetics and perfumes as well as food preparation, alcoholic drinks and soft drinks.

Let's start with some basic information; a brief description of where the oil comes from, what it contains and how it is obtained. The following information is provided by Bill Fifield in his book "Integrated Guide to Essential Oils & Aromatherapy".

Family: Zingiberaceae
Origins: Native to southern Asia but cultivated in tropical areas of Nigeria, the West Indies, India, China, Jamaica, and Japan. The oil is distilled in the UK, China, and India.
Other Names: Common ginger, Jamaica ginger
Description: A perennial herb with a tuberous rhizome root and a green, reed-like stalk with white or yellow flowers.
Extraction: Essential oil produced by steam distillation
Botanical Part Used: Root
Principal Constituents: Gingerin, gingenol, gingerone, zingiberine, camphene, phellandrene and others.
